AQUEN provides turnkey design-build services related to the conditioning, treatment and discharge of industrial wastewaters.

Our modular, fit-for-purpose designs utilize our knowledge and experience across the full spectrum of technologies ranging from simple separation through to complex membrane and thermal processes. In particular, we rely on our experience to help clients identify upset conditions that result in inlet water quality that falls outside of normal design ranges.

We’ve integrated multiple processes in series.

Pre-treatment has included waste minimization, interceptors, flow equalization basins and/or sedimentation. Mechanical pre-treatment solutions have included screening, clarification, dissolved air flotation and media/cloth filtration. Electro-chemical processes have included electro-osmosis and electrodialysis. Chemical processes include pH adjustment, oxidation and adsorption. Biological processes include activate sludge, moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR), membrane bioreactors (MBR) and granular sludge reactors. Solids thickening/dewatering has included gravity thickeners, dissolved air flotation thickeners, gravity belt, rotary drum, filter press, centrifuge, plate & frame and screw press technology. Thermal/evaporative processes have included mechanical vapour recompression, evaporator and crystallizer systems.

The key to effective reuse can only be accomplished through careful sampling and documentation of inlet streams and operating conditions. Although laboratory protocols ensure uniformity in the handling of water and sediment samples, they generally do not preserve the pressure-temperature conditions expected during normal and upset conditions. For sour water reuse-for example, grab samples begin to undergo physical, chemical and biological changes within minutes – ultimately the laboratory composition may vary considerably from conditions expected within the treatment works.
